What is a browser version?

 

Up to now, the Catan Online World client is only available for download and installation. We are planning to make it possible to use the Catan Online World (except for the Card Game) with a standard browser such as Internet Explorer or Firefox.

However, we still suggest using the download version because it has a considerably shorter load time and also contains the Card Game (Windows only), which is not included in the browser version.

At the time (December 2007) though, the plans for a browser version are postponed indefinitely. Our experiments proved that due to certain characteristics of Sun's Java Runtime Environment (JRE) and also because of the complexity of the Catan Online World it is technically difficult to run the COW as a Java applet inside a web browser.
