Cities in the Catan Online World can achieve two titles. Both titles are awarded once per quarter. The status quo can be viewed in the Council Room (Town Hall) as well as in the Library (upper right shelf), where citizens can access the current high score list of the future candidates for the title “Capital of Catan” and "Most Beautiful City". Information on which city currently holds the title can be obtained via a separate menu item.

1. Capital of Catan

The city showing the highest increment in terms of culture within a 3-months period becomes the Capital of Catan. The city to achieve the title in this quarter receives prizes that are meant to be given out as prizes in the context of a city tournament.
In order to keep the cities somewhat comparable, the increment in terms of culture is divided by the number of houses in the city. “Culture” includes the Cultural Buildings (Church, Bathhouse, Library, Bank, City Guard, Assembly Hall) and the plants in the inhabitants’ gardens. The garden costs are the costs of all objects bought for gardens during the quarter.

2. The Most Beautiful City

The best developed city receives the title “Most Beautiful City” of Catan.

  A cultural level equals one donation for city expansion for a Cultural Building. The value of statues is the sum of all statues, depending on their rank. Statues having only one level, such as the “Victory over the Barbarians” statue, count as 1. The values of the other statues are determined as follows:
