As a new citizen, you start in the Hostel. However, you can have your own house built. Afterwards, you can upgrade this humble shack to a magnificent residence, in 12 steps.
If you live in the Hostel, you can only have 4 resources. If you have a house of your own, you can store 5 resources, meaning that your Status display will never show more than 5 resources. When your storage room is full and you don’t spend resources, all the resources you obtain via daily distribution or participation in games will be lost.
When you have upgraded your house to the second level, your storage room can already accommodate 6 resources. Further expansion levels will increase your storage capacity as follows:

Your house has to be renovated on a regular basis, otherwise it deteriorates. Each foray into the Catan Online World starts in one’s own house or in the Hostel. Guests start in the Guesthouse, which has similar functions. You enter your hometown by passing through the door.

You can open the Help menu by clicking on the chest. Here you will find assistance regarding all the important areas of the Catan Online World. However, all this information you can find more in detail on this website.
The News and Statistics Menu
You can open the News menu by clicking on the bookshelf to the right of the door. Here you will find updated information and reports.
Statistics
You receive information about your previous games and about the current status of your donations for city expansion and to the City Guard. The topic “Current Donations” offers an overview of the “durability” of the current donations and is particularly helpful in this context.
News
Important news regarding your city, your house, and your character are listed here.
Important: General news regarding the Catan Online World is not stored here. For current news, you should periodically take a look at the News at www.playcatan.com or in the COW starter.
The Backpack Menu
You can open the Backpack menu by clicking on the backpack in your own house.
Relocation
You are not bound to your city. If you would like to travel to distant places, you can move to any other city in the Catan Online World, provided that there are still building sites available. (A city has room for 150 inhabitants.) But relocation is costly and entails a lot of trouble. That’s why each relocation costs you one house expansion level and one clothing level. However, you don’t have to pay for relocation if you are on house expansion level 1 and clothing level 2.
Vacation
You will be asked if you want to take at least 3 days “vacation.” If you click on “Yes,” your status will be frozen for the time of your vacation. This has the following consequences:
1) You no longer receive daily resources.
2) If your ranking position allows it and the end of the month lies within your vacation period, you will receive the corresponding resources.
3) Donations to the City Guard don’t expire. Donations to the City Guard are deducted at the beginning of the vacation period and added again later.
4) Donations to the city expire naturally. That means, you can lose your position as a Councilman while on vacation. This prevents blockage of a position because of vacation.
5) Your clothing and your house do not “age.”
Now you can absent yourself from the Online World as long as you wish, and it doesn’t bring you disadvantages. Your vacation ends automatically as soon as you log into the Online World again, after a period of at least three days.
Please note: To prevent misuse of the Vacation function, after having registered a vacation it is not possible to log into the Online World again before the three-day period expires.
Modify Character
In this menu you can change the appearance, gender, and profession of your character. Attention: You can change your profession only once every 4 weeks.
