Besides the players’ houses, every city has a center with important public buildings. Here you will find the Cultural Buildings, the Taverns, and other important buildings. The city’s Production Buildings, if they exist, are located in the outskirts of the housing areas.

The Cultural Buildings

The Cultural Buildings add to the cultural value of the city. The cultural value is important for achieving the title “Capital of Catan” and the title “Most Beautiful City.”

It is important to remember that Cultural Buildings are also targets of the barbarians. Rich cities should therefore make sure that their City Guard is strong enough to withstand the barbarians.

The following buildings are Cultural Buildings:

Church (6 levels)

Library (3 levels)

Assembly Hall (3 levels)

Bank (3 levels)

Bathhouse (3 levels)

Arsenal (City Guard) (3 levels)

Town Hall (3 levels) 

At the moment of its foundation, a city possesses all Cultural Buildings of level 1.
