Please note:
For operating the COW client, "Java 2 Standard Edition, version 5.0" or Java 1.5 and newer is required. However, this is only available in Mac OS X 10.4 ("Tiger") or 10.5 ("Leopard").
In case it is not pre-installed on your Mac, you can find the corresponding update on the Apple Computer homepage (only Tiger).
If you are using Mac OS X 10.5 "Leopard" on a 64-bit Intel-based Mac (e.g. Core2Duo), we recommend to install Java SE 6. [Please continue reading]

Important: Due to a Java error in Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger" on Intel-Macs, the COW can only be operated with reduced output quality. We therefore strongly recommend the use of Mac OS X 10.5 "Leopard.”

Furthermore, the use of a mouse with two buttons (or more) is required! Only users of newer models of Mac laptops (starting with MacBook / MacBook Pro) may be able to do without. [Continue reading]

Please note: For operating the COW client, "Java 2 Standard Edition, version 5.0" or Java 1.5 and newer is required. We strongly recommend the use of J2SE Version 6, i.e. Sun Java 6.
Please type “java -version” in a console window to check your Java version. In case you have installed several Java versions in a parallel fashion, you have to pre-select Java 1.6 as the version to be used. In Ubuntu you can achieve this through "sudo update-alternatives --config java".

Notes:

For the automatic update function (recommended), you need write permission in the entire installation directory. This likewise applies for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux.
In Windows, either the 1024x768 full screen mode or the 800x600 window mode is recommended for a monitor resolution of1024x768.
In Mac OS X, for a monitor resolution of 1024x768, you can also use the 1024x768 window mode for a full-screen game: Menu bar and dock are automatically hidden and automatically reappear upon touch with the mouse cursor. – In “Leopard,” we recommend using “Spaces.”
So far, full-screen operation could not be tested successfully for Linux. However, when using Gnome, the panels (main menu bar above, tray below) can be hidden using the function “Hide - Show Buttons,” which – for a monitor resolution of 1024x768 – also enables full-screen game in the 1024x768 window mode.
